The Pensioners' Movement of Euskal Herria has organized a demonstration in Vitoria-Gasteiz this Thursday, April 18, to demand a minimum pension of 1.080 euros from the political parties competing in the elections to the Basque Parliament. This concentration seeks to highlight the need for an urgent update in pension policies to ensure a decent life for all retirees.

The protest is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. from Plaza Bilbao, and will culminate around 12:15 p.m. in front of the New Cathedral of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where a manifesto will be read. The choice of this emblematic place is not accidental, but rather seeks to make visible to a wide audience the persistent demand of pensioners for a significant improvement in their income.

In addition, the movement has scheduled another relevant event for the day before, April 17. Under the title 'Feminist Drift with the Theme of Care', this activity will begin at 12:00 p.m. from Plaza Nueva and will go to various institutional buildings and services to demand improvements in the Home Help Service (SAD) and the residences for the elderly. This event also aims to highlight the need to dignify care and ensure fair working conditions for those who perform these essential roles.

These events are a clear indication of the concern of the Euskal Herria Pensioners' Movement for several critical issues such as the gender gap in pensions, the insufficiency of widow's pensions and the fight to achieve a minimum pension that truly reflects the needs of old. Through these mobilizations, pensioners seek to remind politicians and society in general that issues related to the elderly and health must be a priority on the political agenda, especially in electoral times where government priorities are defined for the next years.
