In a significant step towards the modernization of urban infrastructure, Lamiako prepares to inaugurate the first section of the estuary boulevard this coming spring. Imanol Pradales, deputy for Infrastructure and Territorial Development, has recently visited the works of this project, which promises to transform not only the urban landscape but also mobility in the area. The works, which started in June 2023, represent a milestone in the development of the province and, in particular, the interconnection between Getxo and Bilbao.

El Lamiako section, in Leioa, is the first to see the light of this ambitious project. With an investment of 9,9 millones de euros and an execution period of 16 months, this section is just the beginning of a broader project that aims to improve accessibility and sustainable mobility throughout the region.

A project that redefines mobility and urban space

La Essence of the estuary boulevard lies in its ability to connect. Joining the existing pedestrian and cycling paths in Getxo and Bilbao, this 6,5 kilometer route stands as a central axis in urban planning and sustainable mobility. The route, which runs along the BI-711 highway, will not only facilitate daily travel but will also promote the use of non-motorized means of transportation, especially bicycles.

Furthermore, the incorporation of All Iron Zubia, the walkway that connects Erandio and Barakaldo, is a key component of this project. This connection not only improves accessibility but also underlines the region's commitment to cleaner and more efficient urban mobility.

On the other hand, the regulation of motorized traffic in a space of 6,8 meters guarantees harmonious coexistence between different modes of transport.
