Bizkaia joins the commemoration with an open-air Escape Room and free access to its museums.

The day of Museums in Bilbao are a celebration which highlights the cultural importance of the city and its educational wealth. This year, the holiday revolves around the theme “Museums for Education and Research,” an approach that highlights the ability of museums to enrich society. Bizkaia has organized a varied program with free entry to most institutions and an outdoor Escape Room that invites active participation.

Free admission to museums and special experiences

The deputy for Basque, Culture and Sports, Leixuri Arrizabalaga, highlights the educational role of museums by designing exhibitions and activities that expand knowledge and stimulate curiosity. Each museum offers experiences ranging from history to science, art and technology. The Provincial Council of Bizkaia encourages citizens to visit the museums on May 18, where admission will be free.

At the Arkeologia Museoa, visitors will have open doors to explore the bowels of the museum and learn how archaeological remains are processed. The experience will begin in the washing room and continue through pre-cataloging, research and warehouses where pieces that are not normally on display are found.

Workshops and special events

In addition, the Museum of Reproductions will offer the conference "The Work in its Context", uniting the art of Egypt, Greece and Rome with Christianity. This is complemented by the temporary exhibition “Ni neu, Isis, Lady of all lands”, which delves into Egyptian art. On May 18 and 19, there will be independent workshops to learn about mythology through Egyptian and Greek mandalas, and a micro-story workshop that invites creative writing about the exhibition.

Bilbao will activate the “Wishing Tree for Bilbao”

In addition, The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will activate Yoko Ono's "Wishing Tree for Bilbao" on May 18. This project invites visitors to leave their wishes on the museum's trees as a symbol of hope and optimism for the future. And the Museum of Fine Arts will offer 45-minute commented tours where the public can discover the details of the temporary and permanent exhibitions housed in its rooms.

Museums that highlight the diversity and cultural wealth of Bizkaia

Outdoor Escape Room to attract more people

The Provincial Council has designed an outdoor Escape Room in Campo Volantín to connect with those who do not visit museums regularly. The game is free and will take place on May 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. and from 16:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m. It is an opportunity for all ages to experience the importance of museums as places of learning, research and cultural dissemination.

Visitors can participate for free, but it is recommended to reserve in advance at bizkaikomuseoak@bizkaia.eus to secure a place. In addition to solving the Escape Room challenges, participants will receive a map of Bizkaia's museums as a gift to encourage cultural exploration of the region.

Ultimately, Bilbao and Bizkaia celebrate Museum Day with a variety of activities for all tastes, highlighting the educational and cultural value of their institutions.
