During Holy Week, the city of Bilbao is filled with life and color thanks to the celebration of its popular Bilbao Basque Festival, an event that combines tradition, culture and fun for the whole family. From April 5 to 9, Bilbao becomes the epicenter of Basque culture, offering a rich and varied program that includes everything from circus workshops to award-winning Basque film screenings.

A complete proposal for the whole family

The Doña Casilda Park is the heart of the family activities of Bilbao Basque Fest. For five days, boys and girls of all ages will be able to enjoy circus workshops to learn juggling and acrobatics, theater sessions with clowns and pirates, and an exciting Eskape Park.

In addition, the event has the participation of the Gargantua, an iconic character of Basque culture, which will be located on the esplanade of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, accompanied by live music from the Municipal Band of Txistularis and Gaztedi.

The festival also offers Herri Kirolak workshops, traditional Basque sports, at the Arenal Pier, where over eight years old will have the opportunity to enjoy activities such as tronza or stone lifting. On Sunday April 9, the tent of the Arenal will host multiple activities for the whole family, including Biscayan and Álava bowling championships, the Basque frog championship, intergenerational wooden game workshops, non-alcoholic cocktail workshop and traditional Bilbao pintxos workshop, all enlivened with musical entertainment by the Bilbao Musika Eskola group of trikitixas.

Quality Basque cinema at the festival

The ZINEMA section of the Bilbao Basque Fest offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy the most successful Basque cinema. In the BBK room, the feature film "Cinco Lobitos" will be screened, awarded with three Goya Awards, and the short films "Maldita" and "Loop", each with a Goya Award, and "Cuerdas", distinguished at the Cannes Film Festival. In addition, there will be a daily matinee of the children's film “Hoper oilaskoerbia”.
