This year, the Getxo Jazz festival invites us to enjoy a diverse and exciting program from July 3 to 7, which will feature internationally renowned artists and emerging talents. The event will take place at the Muxikebarri Zentroa and at the Plaza Telletxe in Algorta, offering a perfect combination of musical quality and diversity. Additionally, free activities and family concerts will enrich the experience for all attendees.

Featured artists and varied programming at Getxo Jazz 2024

El festival will begin with James Carter (1969, Michigan), an American saxophonist known for his mastery of all types of saxophone, as well as the clarinet and bass clarinet. His concert at Muxikebarri on July 3 promises to be a spectacular opening to the event.

On the 4th of July, the talented pianist hiromi uehara (1979, Hamamatsu) will take his creative energy to Getxo. Hiromi is renowned for her ability to fuse jazz with classical and pop music, taking improvisation to new levels of sophistication.

On July 5, the guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel (1970, Philadelphia) will lead an ensemble that includes Mark Turner on saxophone, Ben Street on bass, and Jeff Ballard on drums. Together, they will offer a fusion of modernity and tradition, standing out for their virtuosity and creativity.

On July 6, the lovely Stacey Kent (1968, South Orange, New Jersey) will present his extensive repertoire ranging from classical swing to bossa nova, including adaptations of French romantic songs. His warm and sophisticated voice is sure to captivate audiences.

To close the festival, on July 7, Bill Frisell (1951, Baltimore) will deliver an unforgettable performance. Frisell is known for his versatility and extensive career, spanning more than 40 years and an impressive catalog of recordings.

Young talents and family activities at the Getxo Jazz festival

In addition to renowned artists, the festival will also provide space for young talents through the Group Contest, whose finals will be held before the main concerts. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the fresh and original proposals of the new generation of European musicians.

The free festival program includes concerts in the section Third Millennium in the Telletxe Square of Algorta, which will take place at 19:00 p.m. These events will feature young artists such as Irati Bilbao, Carmen Vela, and the international bands Elias D'Hooge Trio and Wasted Generation.

In addition, the festival has organized family concerts in the same square at 12:30 p.m. On July 6, the nonet Femmm, formed in Musikene, will perform thanks to the collaboration between Getxo Kultura and the SGAE Foundation. On July 7, the Swing for Kids show promises to entertain children and adults alike, closing the festival on a joyful and educational note.
