A historic step towards collaboration

Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has reached an agreement with the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) to form part of the municipal government of Barcelona, after more than four hours of intense negotiations, as confirmed by Cadena SER. This pact will be put to a vote among ERC members, which will begin on Thursday at 19 p.m. In addition, a press conference will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. to provide more details about what was agreed.

Details of the agreement and distribution of responsibilities

The agreement between ERC and PSC contemplates that ERC manage key areas such as the Catalan language, youth, tourism, economic promotion, social rights, city projection, older people and urban quality. Sources familiar with the pact have confirmed that Elisenda Alamany would take on Economic Promotion - which includes Tourism and Barcelona Activa - and Jordi Castellana would take on the Social Rights area.

Reactions and political context

This movement seeks to complete a path that began in March, when the ERC group reached a budget pact with the socialists, opening the door to a possible entry into the municipal executive. However, this did not materialize due to the early elections in Catalonia.

Some officials of the ERC national executive have shown their opposition to governing in Barcelona alongside the socialists. Between both parties they would add 15 councilors, far from the 21 necessary for the majority. This agreement occurs at a time when ERC's 20 votes in the Parliament could be decisive in making Salvador Illa president of the Generalitat.

The collaboration between ERC and PSC in the municipal government of Barcelona represents a significant step towards joint management in key areas for the city, highlighting the commitment of both groups to work together to improve the quality of life of Barcelona residents.
