The Onvo L60 is now official. This SUV from the Onvo brand, belonging to NIO, is positioned just below the parent company with a focus on young families. Its pre-sale launch in China, with a price of 219.000 yuan (about 28.000 euros), marks the beginning of new competition in the electric vehicle market. Deliveries will begin in September.

The Onvo L60 is an SUV with a fastback body, designed with a sporty style and focused on energy efficiency. It is positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, but with a promise of greater efficiency. According to the manufacturer, the Onvo L60 consumes 12,1 kWh/100 km in the CLTC cycle, compared to 12,5 kWh/100 km for the Tesla Model Y. Alan Ai, president of the brand, has highlighted that the priority from the beginning has been the low energy consumption.

Onvo L60: A more efficient competitor than the Tesla Model Y

The Onvo L60's dimensions are similar to the Tesla Model Y, although the Onvo is slightly larger. It measures 4,82 meters long and 1,93 meters wide, surpassing the 4,75 meters long and 1,92 meters wide of the Model Y. Despite being larger, the Onvo L60 is lower and offers a longer wheelbase. In addition, its price is more competitive in the Chinese market, being about 4.000 euros cheaper than the Tesla Model Y.

The Onvo L60 is launched in three versions, with ranges of 555 km, 730 km and more than 1.000 km, under the CLTC homologation cycle. These versions have 60 kWh, 90 kWh and 150 kWh batteries, respectively. The highest capacity battery is a semi-solid state battery from supplier WeLion.

The Onvo L60's electrical system uses a 900V architecture, which contributes to its high efficiency and allows for ultra-fast charging. This feature is key for users looking to minimize charging time and maximize vehicle use.

Technology and comfort inside the Onvo L60

Although the interior of the Onvo L60 was not shown in images during its official presentation, it was announced that it will have a 17,2-inch central screen for the multimedia system and a 13-inch Head-Up Display system. Following the Tesla trend, the Onvo L60 does not have a digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel.

A standout feature of the Onvo L60 is the ability of the front seats to fold down completely, creating a surface that converts into a bed. However, unlike other electric cars, it does not have a front trunk.

Powertrain expectations and configurations

Although Onvo has not revealed the exact powertrain configurations, it is known that there are three versions differentiated by battery and range. It is likely that the power settings will be adjusted following the model of the Tesla Model Y, considered the benchmark in its segment. The lack of specific data on power suggests that Onvo could be waiting to offer details closer to the start of deliveries.
